[...] With different openers on each of the five nights, I felt this night had the best one with Elysian Fields. I’ve seen this band at much smaller venues, so Bowery would have been a challenge for their quiet sexy rock. Jennifer looked amazing in her glittery dress and played some good songs to a decent crowd. Although 2 of the band members had berets on, they complimented the sultry voice that came from the stage. The highlight was when they covered the Pixies “Monkey Gone to Heaven”. Before the song finished, Jennifer never said good-bye, picked up her purse and quietly left the stage. wtf.
[...] It was his birthday and word has it that he was in a bad mood, which seemed plausible. He was very quiet on stage and the set did not have the same energy that I had witnessed last year (even with food poisoning). They played a bunch of new songs and although a decent set, I wasn’t impressed. They ended the evening with “The Empty Threats Of Little Lord” leaving the stage quickly and no encore. I regretted not opting to go to the Type O Negative show. His sans-candle birthday cupcake pretty much summed up the evening. [...]

Go PLUG your self PLUG.
PLUG AWARDS claims to to say "fuck you" to the Grammy's and then follows suit. PLUG is more about getting the awards show recognition than the artists they supposedly are trying to represent. I sat at the show and thought "no shit, I knew these bands were great allready--did I really need some one to come tell me they kick ass?" The answer is "no". Good music isn't revealed at an awards show like the Grammy's or PLUG. Go hit a local venue or even a true indie site like Pitchfork or 3hive if you want to get in touch with the latest in indipendent music.

[...] You can’t deny loving The Long Winters. Their catchy pop songs are perfectly crafted and you’ll find yourself singing along to the clever lyrics. Their new album “Putting The Days To Bed” is an extension of their Ultimatum EP and feels more personal than on the previous recordings. I got a taste of the new new stuff a few weeks ago at the Mercury Lounge and was happy that they were headling the Bowery Ballroom, which they have never done before. John Roderick’s nerdy demeanor and stage presence added more color to the show and stated that Seattle and New York have always been the most receptive to his music. He came out with an American Flag guitar and at one point played the blues per request becuase “He never needs an excuse to play the blues.” The band performed a multitude of songs from all their albums, playing and dodging the countless requests yelled out. As a thank you to their fans, they continued their tradition of not playing encores and proceeded to play for almost 2 hours! The band and the crowd was exhausted but it was worth every second.
